The program will be live and interactive over Zoom® with Tony Mayo leading every session.  Each session will be presented twice to accommodate your dynamic schedule. If you need to miss a Thursday morning session, join us the following Wednesday instead. Or plan on Wednesdays knowing that you can also come on any Thursday when that time is more convenient. Come to both if you want to dig into the process. Recordings, workbooks, and supplemental materials will also be available.

  • There are plenty of books and articles on goal setting. Why is this program worth the time and trouble?
    • A few years ago I ran into my chiropractor at a gas station. “I haven’t seen you in quite a while. How’s your back?”
      I replied, “It’s been great. I learned yoga!”
      A few months later I was back in his office. “Why are you here?” he asked. “I thought you’d learned yoga.”
      “Yes, but I learned something else, too” I replied. “It doesn’t help to learn yoga. I have to do yoga!”
    • This is a group program that includes expert coaching and committed fellow participants. Tony will teach the exact methods proven by academic studies and employed by his own clients to produce reliable results. More important, we will apply this knowledge in each session with exercises and worksheets, then commit to specific actions in the following days. Participants return to each session ready to talk about the particular barriers they’ve encountered to get support in getting around, over, or through them.
  • The price is much lower than other professional training. Why is it so cheap?
    • First, because I am also doing it for my 1:1 clients who already pay me well. Adding non-clients to the sessions costs very little and interacting with a larger group adds to everyone’s experience.
    • Second, because this is a bit of a loss leader for my 1:1 coaching. This program is a powerful introduction to my services. I expect a few of the participants to become long-term clients.

     

  • Seven sessions of up to one hour! Why does goal-setting take so long?
    • Writing down a few whims and wishes, even a half-dozen sincere New Year’s Resolutions wouldn’t take very long. You may have noticed that doing so seldom causes a noticeable difference a few months or even a few days later.
    • We will be doing something much more rigorous and effective. We will explore your guiding values, your relationships and resources, and your history with achievement and disappointment. I’ll guide you through a specific, proven, step-by-step method of detailing your goals that dramatically increases the likelihood that you will achieve them.
    • Much of our class time will be targeted coaching to help you learn and overcome your own unique barriers to accomplishment. Between sessions, you will be working to make your goals come true. Return to each session with this experience so that your coach can help you through specific barriers as you encounter them.

     

  • Will there be “homework”? I’m busy enough now.
    • First of all, stop being so proud of calling yourself “busy.” Here’s a video that may help: Are You Busy?
    • A significant amount of class time will be devoted to designing and writing out your own goals and plans in the format provided. These periods of individual creation and capture also provide an opportunity to join me in a private Zoom “Breakout Room” where I can help you with 1:1 coaching on recording and reaching your goals.
    • There will, of course, be changes to what you do outside our sessions together. You can’t expect to achieve your goals without taking action. This may require doing more, at least initially. As you use the program’s guidelines to reallocate your energy and attention toward your most important results, you can expect to experience more time freedom and greater confidence in your task choices. The most common benefit my business-owner clients report is, as my slogan summarizes:
      • I coach business owners to run a larger, more lucrative business in less time with less stress by becoming better to work for and easier to live with.
  • I’m concerned about privacy. Since the sessions will be recorded and made available to participants for makeups and reviews, how will what I say be protected?
    • Every participant will agree to keep confidential everything that participants say in the program. I have used such agreements for many years and have never, not even once, had a problem with loose lips.
    • Ultimately, each of us is responsible for our own privacy. If you do not want to risk having something repeated, do not say it in the open discussions.
    • You will have an opportunity during most sessions to join me in a private Zoom “Breakout Room” where I can help you with 1:1 coaching on recording and reaching your goals.
  • Goal setting hasn’t worked for me in the past because [insert excuse here].
    • Maybe you avoid writing your goals for one of these common reasons. You’ve written goals and never thought about them again. You’ve written goals, worked at them, but did not get the results. Or, you’re afraid to put a lot of energy and attention into the “wrong” goals, outcomes that won’t really matter.
